Ten Inventive Ways to Keep Warm on a Student Budget:

I'm freezing, and I'm bored. Happy Procrastination!

1) Wear all your clothes at once.

You know that grumpy housemate who never wants the heating on and just says 'put another jumper on!'? Well do it. Take their clothes, too. Pants especially. And then lunge, Joey style.

2) Stay in bed all day. ;)

You know what I'm talking about. And you know it makes sense.

3) Hotbox your tiny student bathroom.

Also great if you have trouble sleeping. Not great for your food budget.

4) Get blotto.

Scientifically speaking this is incorrect. But after a certain point, you stop feeling cold.
Now how about combining some of the other ideas for extra festive crunk-times?

5) DANCE!

'Single Ladies', 'Wuthering Heights', 'Jump Around'... Some things I just can't sit still to. Get a playlist and get yo' groove thang on. Just shut the curtains, okay? Nobody needs to see that.

6) Clean the house.

Alright, so it doesn't exactly sound fun. But I ALWAYS get a sweat on hoovering (TMI?). And you get that smug sense of satisfaction that you can make your housemate take the bins out/clean the loo because you've already done your part for this week's schedule.

7) Squeeze everybody on the same sofa.

LOTR marathon? New Peep Show? It's all about the body heat!

8) Take up knitting.

Make a blanket. The more you knit, the warmer you get.

9) Make a roast.

Keep the oven door open when you're finished. Eat in the kitchen. Mmmm, stuffing-scented air freshener...

10) Indoor BBQ!

Candles? Check. Marshmallows? Check. Fun? CHECK!

Frosty kisses! xxx

Thanksgiving.

Rampant commercialism and historical racism aside, I think Thanksgiving is a nice idea. It's generally good to just sit back and appreciate what you have going for you. And to watch Joey from Friends get a turkey stuck on his head and put on his thanksgiving pants and being thankful for cool autumn breezes AND thongs.

So in the spirit of the occasion, I am thankful for:

My ever supportive mommas and sis, unconventional though they may be, we’re probably one of the happiest households I know, I couldn’t even try to explain how much I love them. My awesome grandparents for their constant love, and needless to say the parcels of chocolate and knitted goods! My dad and step-family, far away though we may be. My honorary grandma Auntie M, who has always shown such care and interest in me and my sister that I can only hope we are making her proud.

I am thankful for everyone that has helped me get to Uni and the people that keep me here. My boyfriend, who is so good and kind (and patient!) I don’t know why he puts up with me. My friends; it took a long time for me to finally settle down into a social circle and good things definitely came to those who waited. Beard and Beef’s house is my haven, the swimmers are my soul food, the recent graduates are a constant motivational reminder that I have to do as well as they did (!!) And, of course, the old faithfuls, my home lot. No matter how long I am away from them, whenever I return home it’s like I never left.

I am more recently thankful for my cognitive behavioral therapist, who is like my Auntie Kook, Uncle Westy and Dawn French rolled into one block of funny, re-assuring, helpful awesomeness. I’m MASSIVELY thankful that I have finally realised that the person that I thought I was, the person I didn’t like, was not me. And I’m thankful that the real me is actually pretty awesome.

... Big smushy love to us all on this grey, miserable day.

Alright?

Instead of jumping straight in (because, believe me, I have got a rant at the ready today!) I thought I'd just do a little hello, welcome, kinda thing.

This is probably gonna be a mix of purposes. I'm pretty ranty so expect them... and general nonsense, I'm pretty good at. I love books and film so I might rave on about a particularly good one I come across.

Basically this is more a personal thing for me to stop boredom and perhaps interest and entertain anyone who reads this, as well as myself. I think I'm better in writing than I am in real life most of the time, so here we go...
